POSITION DESCRIPTION

Color Of Change is seeking a Vice President, Campaigns to serve as a critical senior leader within the Campaigns Department and a key partner to the Chief of Campaigns.

We are operating in a moment where the demand for impact is higher than ever. Our work requires responding in real time as a movement driven organization executing campaigns that drive tangible change.

Color Of Change runs 15-20 active campaigns annually, spanning corporate accountability, government advocacy, and culture change, in partnership with grassroots and community based organizations. Our work is designed to generate corporate pressure and cultural influence, while maximizing member engagement and political and economic impact.

This role is both strategic and deeply executional, responsible for translating organizational vision into high impact campaigns that deliver measurable outcomes. The VP serves as the bridge between strategy and execution, overseeing campaign development, organizing infrastructure, and cross functional coordination across Campaigns, Government Affairs, and Organizing.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Campaign Strategy Execution & Oversight

  • Translate organizational priorities and theory of change into clear campaign strategies and implementation plans
  • Partner with the Chief of Campaigns to translate organizational strategy into high impact, executable campaign plans
  • Oversee the design, execution, and performance of multi-issue campaigns across corporate accountability, political advocacy, and culture change, including criminal justice, economic justice, democracy, tech, and culture
  • Ensure campaigns are fully integrated across online and offline tactics, including organizing, digital, communications, and policy
  • Drive clarity on campaign goals, timelines, success metrics, and outcomes through structured planning processes

Leadership & Team Management

  • Directly manage and coach Senior Directors and campaign leaders across organizing, campaigns, and programmatic work
  • Build leadership capacity across teams, with a focus on accountability, decision making, performance, and execution under pressure
  • Foster a strong team culture rooted in collaboration, urgency, and ownership
  • Elevate the standard of excellence through coaching, feedback, and performance management
  • Ensure alignment across teams, reduce silos, and drive coordinated execution

Organizing & People Power Infrastructure

  • Oversee the organizing program and ensure alignment with campaign goals and broader strategy
  • Strengthen systems for member engagement, volunteer development, and leadership pipelines
  • Ensure rapid response actions are connected to long term organizing strategy
  • Support the scaling of member activation across campaigns to drive sustained engagement and impact

Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Serve as a key integrator across Campaigns, Government Affairs, Policy, Communications, Digital, and Development
  • Partner closely with cross-functional teams to ensure cohesive campaign execution and shared ownership
  • Align campaign strategies with federal and state policy priorities and advocacy strategies
  • Collaborate with Communications to translate campaigns into high impact media and narrative moments
  • Partner with Development to align campaigns with funding strategy, reporting, and resource needs

Performance Management & Evaluation

  • Establish and track key performance indicators across campaigns and organizing work
  • Use data, reporting, and insights to assess effectiveness and improve outcomes
  • Strengthen operational infrastructure to support multiple simultaneous campaigns and complex initiatives
  • Oversee development of campaign outputs, including reports, messaging frameworks, and policy-related materials
  • Ensure alignment between campaign execution and funder commitments and reporting

External Engagement & Representation

  • Represent campaign work with key partners, coalitions, and stakeholders
  • Support high level external relationships in coordination with the Chief of Campaigns
  • Contribute to thought leadership and public positioning of campaigns when appropriate

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years of experience in campaigns, advocacy, organizing, or movement building
  • 5+ years of experience managing senior leaders and leading leaders
  • Proven track record of executing large scale, high impact campaigns
  • Strong experience in integrating organizing, digital, communications, and policy strategies
  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in complex environments
  • Experience building systems that improve execution, efficiency, and scale

REPORTING STRUCTURE & TEAM CONTEXT

Reports to: Chief of Campaigns
Collaborates closely with: Campaigns leadership team; Government Affairs; Digital; Policy; Communications; Development; People & Culture; and external partners, including advocacy organizations, coalitions, and funders

MORE INFORMATION

Location: Remote (U.S.); preference for candidates based in or near major metropolitan areas for periodic in-person collaboration
Employment Status: Exempt, Full-Time
Classification: Senior Leadership (Non-Bargaining Unit)
Direct Reports: Senior Directors and/or campaign leaders (structure may evolve)
Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, core business hours with flexibility required to support campaign launches, rapid response moments, and time sensitive advocacy work

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

 

Compensation for this role is $140,000–$165,000 base, commensurate with experience and aligned with senior campaign leadership roles at national advocacy and racial justice organizations.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Color Of Change operates in a remote environment with team members across the United States. You will collaborate regularly with colleagues via video, email, and chat, and engage frequently in cross-functional coordination. This role requires working core hours Monday–Friday on a laptop for most of the workday, with additional time as needed to support campaign execution and organizational priorities. Occasional travel may be required for team convenings or strategic planning.
